WCA: Public-Private Partnership a Win for Westchester
JUNE 17, 2015
Special Statement by Marissa Brett on New Management for Rye Playland
“The Westchester County Association applauds Westchester County lawmakers for their unanimous approval of a new public-private partnership with Standard Amusements to operate and enhance Playland Amusement Park in Rye. The private management company’s considerable investment—over $22 million in the next five years—will enhance this historical venue, but more important, will relieve Westchester taxpayers of the losses suffered by the park and serve as a future revenue stream for the county.
“The WCA has long-advocated for the use of public-private partnerships to improve our County’s infrastructure and monetize government assets. This new deal may signal an improved climate for private investors and developers to back various projects here.
“In addition, the bipartisan approval of the 15-year agreement—decided swiftly in a 17-0 vote—is notable. It’s a pleasure to see Westchester County legislators collaborating on the improvement and working towards the long-term success of Rye Playland. Our residents will benefit from a revitalized county asset, and our economy will reap the benefits of Standard Amusements’ private investment.
“The Westchester County Association, the county’s preeminent business group, is committed to working closely with business and government to build a successful future for Westchester County.
