Westchester’s deep-seated sports industry was on display Wednesday night at a jam-packed event hosted by WCA’s Young Professionals Group (YPG) “The Business of… Sports,” at the Westchester County Center...
...The sold-out event placed our YPs front and center with the leadership from the New York Knicks organization who last year, inked a deal with the County to bring its minor league team to White Plains. Here are some of the event’s major takeaways:
Sports flies under the radar in Westchester County. Yet, many athletes call the county home, and several minor and development-league teams are located here. In fact, our region leads the United States in its concentration of up-and-coming athletes;
There are many components to sports including media and PR, and education;
The corridor between Boston and Philadelphia, which Westchester finds itself in the middle of, is considered the epicenter of sports in America;
Networking & volunteering are the best ways into the industry;
Hire an athlete—they know how to work!
The Business of…. Series puts a spotlight on under-the-radar industries that are thriving in Westchester County, highlighting professional development opportunities for Young Professionals as well as those seeking a career change.
